March Photo of the day. I thought I would try my hand at this daily photo shoot. I will do my best here to get what I can with the time I have. I travel a lot, so I bought a used Pro1 to take with me as this will fit in my luggage a lot easier than my DSLR.

John (300m) > March 31: Artistic impression, Chesapeake Bay Deadrise at work.
I was out looking for shots today and I had taken a few I liked. I saw this deadrise working the waters here on the bay and snapped a picture. Shot is cropped a lot as the lens is only 24-85 mm that I was using indoors for a bathroom project. The weather has been real blah the last 2 day with today not much better. So the lighting at noon and the badly overcast makes for some poor conditions to shot from. I took this shot, but the sky and the coloring on the water was not the best so I tried a few effects in PS. I came up with this and like the results. You can still make out the boats and the birds, but the bland conditions have taken on a new look. What to you folks this of my artist shot?
John (300m) > March 30: Up close and personal. I spent a lot of today helping my daughter setup her pictures and some galleries here on my website. She had fun and we took some pictures together today again. I had a hard time choosing a shot today as I was able to get a few really nice shots. I had the girls in for a vote and between us we selected this shot. I loaded the others in my macro directory, sans one I am saving for a DP if I need one :). We had rain most of the day so I took this shot in doors behind me on a small table draped with a white sheet. I mounted the macro on the tripod and was able to get 1.1:1 mag with this shot. Lighting was done with the onboard flash in commander mode triggering my SB800 fired into a bounce reflector and hand held on the left side. Hence the shadows and 3d effect on the left. Direct flash even with a diffuser gave a flat shot.

Just for the record, this is not a crop but a 1.1:1 magnification on the flower. This shot filled the frame as shown.
John (300m) > March 29: Sunset on the James River.
We were sitting at dinner tonight finishing up from our dinner out ~ 7PM when I realized I had taken a total of 2 pictures all day. I knew I was in trouble with a DP shot and was going to have to use a shot from the archives for today. While on the way to get some black fabric for some macro shots, Paul gave me this idea. I spotted this sunset in the works and drove the 5 miles to the public boat ramp on the James River and snapped 5 shots of the sunset. On this shot I focused the camera where I wanted in manual set the meter to matrix and then raised the tripod to max height. Using the electronic trigger I took 2 shots 5 min apart. This was the better shot color wise. I would not have been able to get this shot without the electronic trigger as the camera was at least 3' over my head.

John (300m) > March 28: My first bug with the macro. I spent the day moving 5 yards of mulch throughout my yard today. Forever vigil of need a shot for the DP I took a break between loads to follow a honey bee. I was in hopes of a shot. No dice, I spied the pink azalea just starting to bud so I attempted to capture a shot hand holding with the wind blowing 25..... Alas it was a bit of work. I watched this fly land on a near by bush so I tried my luck. 1st time with available light, but a t noon, it was harsh and shot was blown out. I took 2 then popped the onboard flash and got this last one. Well worth the effort. This is my 1st capture of a bug up this close. I will have to look for that honey bee and see what I can do.

On a personal note, we got the mulch done and now I hurt in more ways that I can count. I still have to go through my niece's wedding photo (103) that I took last night.
John (300m) > March 27: Train tracks, trip to no where.
I was out this Am before my doctors appointment, taking a few pictures. I grabbed some of flowers, and a train. Upon leaving I saw this scene and decided to give it a shot. I was able to take the picture as the train was actually stopped on the tracks 100 yards behind me. Coal train waiting for something. This gave me the time to kneel in the center of the tracks and get this shot. What is really interesting is the 1st intersection in the picture is a very busy section of road, Took me 4 - 5 shots to get this without cars, trucks or buses and ~ 15 min of waiting. Kinda of unnerving when you are kneeling on tracks.

John (300m) > March 26: This shot looked interesting this morning. I spent the day inspecting buildings and photographing faults in our buildings so most of my shots from today are boring. I saw these trees on top of the moat walk and took the shot. Rather bland so I added some effects in Lightroom (LR). I cropped the shot as the street signs and stop light were a bit ugly in the picture. [This was a snap shot between buildings and not something I planned out.] In LR I added 2 presets. First I did Matt's midnight dark and then I added Matt's Vividity level 1 to bring the tree detail out. To this I added .25 on the exposure for the tree also. FYI, Matt is Matt Kloskowski, he does the killer LR tips and is part of the Photoshop TV crew
John (300m) > March 25: Sunrise over the inner moat. I caught this as I looked out the office door at work. Ran down to my car and got the camera out Sun was actually behind the building on the left when I took the photo ~ 7:15 this AM. EXIF time is wrong as I have not set the time since the time change on this camera. Orange color is just as it came out of the camera. All I did in LR was to crop and straighten the shot as I leaned over the railing to get this shot. I exposed for the sky as to silhouette the trees and buildings against the morning sky.

John (300m) > March 24: My daughter was off from school today so I play hookie from work and we spent some time together today. Went to breakfast, bought some flowers and then we visited the park. This area captured my eye as the water was an odd shade of blue-green. We had to check this out. This is not a photoshop effect, I did not use PS on this shot. The water is really that color. The city has added some chemical to the water for some reason and the water is this weird shade. I did the best I could to capture motion here. I did not have a ND or polarizer with me so I used f/32 at ISO 100 to slow the water down the best I could. Hence the extra detail in the shot. The weird blue intrigued my daughter and I today so we are submitting this shot of the twin cites display at Newport News Park
John (300m) > March 23: My Daughter Kara, helping us plant flocks in the front yard. She gave me permission to post her picture so I wanted to submit for today.
