John (300m) > April 21: Rainmaker has come and we cannot get away.
It has rained here all day today and most of yesterday. I got this shot very early this morning between storms and it is the only shot I got today I am happy with. I started with the surreal effect in lightroom and modified the settings to fit my mood of what I saw out the window for this picture through the colored glass and this was the results. Best I can do today as I have 1 to choose from not my usual 10. Need to overhaul our 48 gal fish tank tonight so guess we will be busy.
John (300m) > April 20: Lilly
We have rain today for most of the day as we were stuck inside. I bought a small batch of flowers as my wife was due home today and we knew she would like the Iris and lilly. I took the opportunity to photo the lilly before she came home. This one is focus stacked, 2 copies. My 1st attempt at focus stacking. I use the Helicon Focus program (MAC) for this operation. I shot the lily using the NIkon R1 flash system using 2 flashes in 2 groups. Trying to learn to use my flash better

John (300m) > April 19: In the park with my daughter Kara.
My daughter and I toured NEwport News Park after breakfast taking pictures and enjoying the surroundings. I had her stop on this log and pose for this shot for me. She is holding my old D100 with a 24-85 Nikor lens that she has been using for the last few weeks to take pictures. We had a good time today and went to ColdStone and had ice cream afterwards. Yum! Going out now to shoot a sunset is the clouds clear and have dinner. I will answer comments later tonight.

John (300m) > April 18: Bluejay feather.
My daughter found this in the yard today so when I was taking pictures I took a photo of this. I brought this in the house and tried out my new flash ring on this The R1 unit did a better job than my big SB800. My daughter and I are batching it for the weekend as my wife and her girlfriends are at the beach for the weekend. So I am a bit behind as Kara and I are spending time together. Need to go back in and get my but kicked on the Xbox again :) Have a great weekend all.

John (300m) > April 17: Sunrise over the Moat on Ft Monroe.
I saw this shot on the way into work this morning. Sun was due to come up in ~ 20 min. I drove to my office and walked back to the moat and took this shot. Camera was in manual mode and I used a tripod shoot at various settings to get the look and exposure I wanted. I did the frame effect in photoshop, I have been wanting to try this.
For those that do not know, Ft Monroe inner area is surrounded by a moat filled with water. Inner is to the right of this shot, walls are 21' thick at the bottom and 16' thick at the top. I was standing on the Main Gate Bridge to take this shot. There is a shot of this same area taken at lunch on my way to the gym in my historic gallery.

John (300m) > April 16: The waters edge; Old Point Comfort Marina
I had a chance to be out early this am and was able to bring my camera. I captured this shot of the marina just after sunrise today. This is a fairly new marina, 20 years ago the creosote coated timbers caught on fire and 90% burned down. The section here is ~ 10 years old and well kept now. The marina was rebuild while I worked for public works on the installation and the job was well done by the local COE office. This marina stays filled all year round. The lighting and coloring this morning was great. I used the seawall as a tripod for the shots I took.

John (300m) > April 15: Sunrise on the water
I captured this sunrise on the way to work this morning. I saw the vivid colors and parked my car and went for a walk along the seawall to find a spot that car light would not interfere with my shot. Main road runs behind me along the water to some buildings. It was cold and windy, but worth the time. The wind grabbed my little Modo tripod and tried to blow it into the bay when I disconnected the camera. Tripod only weighs 2 lbs, good for this type of work. I was glad I kept my hand on the camera strap!

John (300m) > April 14: Surreal Gazebo
I took this shot at lunch today. I was out waking in the lousy weather today and took this shot. I used the surreal effect to help on this shot as the weather was grey and drab. I like the effect it has on this picture.

John (300m) > April 13: Daisy Daisy, sing to my heart be true.
I worked some more with the macro today as I had some plants to go in the ground and I was already muddy from planting :) My planned shot came out kind of flat so I am glad I took these with my daughter today. We both took pictures again today. This Cape series daisy is shot ~ 1.5:1 mag rate just as the sun came out on an overcast day. I had the camera on a tripod, but it was very windy and it took a lot of shot and a higher ISO than I wanted to capture the shot.
