May Photo of the day. I have made it through 2 months now and working on my third in the photo of the day challenge! I will do my best to get a new shot every day. I am going to bring my Canon Powershot Pro1 with me to work and my D200 in the evening so hopefully I can find something worth wild to post for a daily shot. I am enjoying this challange as this is really streching my abilties.

John (300m) > May 31: Lug Nuts
I was having my car worked on this morning, nail in the front tire. While I was waiting I was taking pictures and this shot caught my eye. I thought it would make a good B&W . I like the lines and the lack of colors in the original. There was good detail in the silver lug nuts and the table with the silver of weathered wood. I processed and did a gradient filter in CS3 with a selected midpoint for the break point of the conversion. I like the simplicity and the lines in the shot.

John (300m) > May 30 Spices
This is peppercorns that I was able to catch with the macro lens. I made a small pile of these corns and using the R1 flash system took several shots trying to get one that looked good in the exposure. They are piled on a flat black board and lit with 2 SB200 flash units. One on the R1 ring and the other on a stand at 9:00 at reduced power. I used a low f/stop as I only wanted a few corns in focus and not all the corns.

John (300m) > May 29: Closed for the night
This is a small flower in the front flower bed of our yard. Knowing I needed a shot for today and that my daughter and I have a archery class tonight I was looking to see what I could find. I found this little beauty in the front bed and it had closed for the night as the sun is behind my house. I had to get the tripod as it is windy and I could not hold still enough for the shot. Using a reflector to break the wind I was able to lay on the ground with the tripod and get this picture. I really liked the color combo on this picture.

John (300m) > May 28: Old Post office
The old post office on post. The clocks in the towers are mechanical and work. Today was rainy and overcast so I am using a shot I took last week of this building. I did this today with applying some information I learned in a training class.

John (300m) > May 27 Weed
I was walking at lunch today and saw this on the moat walk. I was intrigued with the picture. This is a piece of grass weed that caught my attention. I used the camera in macro mode for the shot with the moat wall for a background. I like this better than the dandelion shot I also took.

This is the same tree I was checking this morning looking for a shot. The sun was shining through the bark I really liked the way the sun shined through this piece of bark.

John (300m) > May 25: Bubbling ooze
I was looking for a shot today to use and took about 6 pictures before I found this. This shot has not been rotated and is on something in the yard I am going to see if you folks can guess what. I did take this with the macro for more detail, shot is very visible to the naked eye and is really ~ 25" long. It is in my front yard at home. I had not seen this before so I thought the shot interesting. I took this shot hand held at 1/20 by holding on to something while snapping the shot. Does anyone have a guess ? Karina, no This is real and not man made

John (300m) > May 24: Nonareil's
I was struggling on what to use today when my wife suggested there that my daughter uses on her ice cream. I used the macro and ran a 3 shot sequence through a focus stack to get them all in focus.

have a great weekend everyone.
Seems this got loaded twice, so Gail missed the description.
John (300m) > May 23: Dude what are you doing in my space??
I caught this little guy while walking today. He came scampering up to me while I was photographing some others and birds. I was amazed that he came this close as I was using the 105 macro as a prime. This is a hand held shot using the macro as a prime lens.
