John (300m) > Sept 3: Butterfly who wanted his picture taken.
While out walking yesterday I was looking for shots for my POD as usual and I came across this butterfly and another. I stopped and took a few shots of this guy and did not see his mate. When I took the camera down from my eye the mate was on the lens hood looking at me. :) I took a few more shot and it was still there. I was wondering how long it would stay on he lens as I had started walking again when it decided to leave me to my walk. I figured this was a sign to look close at these 2 shots and pick one for the daily. Hence todays shot as chosen by the butterfly. My alt choice for today is in my B&W gallery here. Gazebo Have a great day everyone.

NOTE: I just got into work and I have a note from Bill Pador, he is real sick with a kidney infection. He is back home now and hopes to be back up to speed in a few days.
John (300m) > August 20: Imagination!
When I stared my walk yesterday this little guy flew around in front of me and I took a few shots. I took 3 more steps and he/she landed in front of me as if to say "take my picture" I took a bunch and was able to get down onto the ground and close before he/she flew away. I was impressed. I had a shot for POD after taking 20 pic's I was sure I had something :) While walking this inspiration came to me and I processed the shots with this in mind looking for one with the wings unfolded and I did not have to rotate much. I chose this one as I liked the deep brown colors and the way the sun played out on the wings. I did a little process in LR along with rotating the butterfly to this angle and then the frame work here in PS. Hope you enjoy.
Counting the days till Friday evening when my vacation starts!!! My daughter is already packing, we are going to the beach for a week :)
John (300m) > August 11: Butterflies are free tonight, fly away bye bye
I caught this little guy on the way out for a walk yesterday. I chased him around a bit but was able to capture this shot with my zoom when he/she landed on the grass for a breather and held still. I grabbed 2 shots before he took off again. This is a pretty much straight from the camera with a crop in to remove the excess grass.

Butterfly that I chased on my walk for at least 10 min. He was flitting from dandelion to dandelion feeding on the flowers. I took about 10 shots before I got a good one to use for the DP. I had my D200 today so I was happy to chase him around the moat walk. Nothing special here, natural light and an 18-200 VR lens to capture the shot.

John (300m) > April 12 Alt #2: Butterfly.
I chased the butterfly across the yard with the macro. Not the best option for a fast moving butterfly as the DOF is very narrow.
My wife now tells me this is a tiger swallowtail
