300m > July 13: Desert time.
Yesterday was a very hectic day for me and I was rapidly running out of ideas for a POD come 8PM. My lovely wife had this idea and I ran with it. This is my daughter's slice of desert that she graciously let me photograph before she ate the piece. I tried various positions and angles on the fork, that is how it got cool whip on it not from samples, to keep the flashback from the shiny stainless steel fork. I liked this angle and lighting the best. Three flashes used in this shot with a home made light box via notes Oliver posted. 1 R1 mounted on top as fill 1 to the side as fill and SB 800 on cord at the side as primary flash. PS Kara, my 12 yr old, made the cake. The streaks are pudding poured in while backing. Decorated with mandarin oranges.
300m > May - 12: The Angry Morning Sky
The weather here is bad, we have gail force winds and rain that started this AM. I caught part of the approaching storm when I got to work. I glimpsed the scene and drove down to the seawall to capture a shot of this angry black sky. You could just see the sunrise peaking out of the gap in the clouds. I had to anchor my tripod legs against the seawall rails and hold the strap to the camera lest I not have a camera. The wind was really howling at that point. Limbs down and debris on the road I had not seen on the way to the water

300m > June 14: Damselfly
I was out today looking for some shots for my POD when I saw the cone flower in bloom. I went back in to get my tripod and flash as the sky was heavily overcast and gloomy. When I came back out with the gear in my hand I saw this damselfly on the flower. I photo, the fly in various poses while holding the flashes in one hand and the tripod leaning against me. So much for the gear. The on camera flash was up but at -2 EV as I had indented to hand hold the lighting for the flower. When I moved close he flew away. I cropped this shot to show the detail of the fly and the flower. Look for these cone flowers in the future.
Happy Fathers Day folks.

Off to get a flat fixed as my front tire is flat. I will get comments later when I get the car fixed.
300m > April 6: DVD reflections. I am on the road this morning and will be in airports most of the day. It is raining right now here so my thought of an early shot is gone with the rain. I am using this DVD shot ala Banjon I took Friday. I took a new DVD, placed on the table, lit with a compact fluorescent overhead added a few drops of water and then tilted the disk slightly using a lens cap. The streak in the light is caused by a LED flashlight I held at 12 to the picture.

300m > June 21: Breakfast Time
After yesterdays fiasco I was up first thing, even after the sleep over, looking for a pod. I was a bit sleepy, but I was not going to be taking picture at 11 PM again. I took several in the early morning light. Wind was blowing so my job was tougher. I caught some roses and cone flowers, but this brown eyed susan with the bug having breakfast beat out the pollen covered ants on the cone flower. I got 1 shot as when he saw me he moved on. I had the tripod setup and both R1 flashes on so this was the best. 1 flash on the camera at - 1/3 EV the other hand held at 90 degrees at - 1.3 EV. D200 and the 105 macro in manual mode.
300m > June 28: Dinner Time!
I caught this picture last evening when I remembered that I had not done a pod yet. After all my chores and cleaning up after travel I thought I was done :). I was done on the ground photographing a new plant when this bee landed on the cone flowers. I was able to chase him around for a bit and get a good close up shot. Add to the fact that the wind was blowing I have quite a few misses :). As the light was failing I was using the R1 flash system for this shot. Both were mounted on the ring. Camera was in commander mode with on camera flash off and A at -1/3 and B -1.7 EV. I had the camera at f/16 and +2/3 EV also for this shot.
Slowly catching up with everyone on the comments. I missed some really great pictures while I was gone! That is one thing I missed, my time on line viewing everyones pictures. I have to goto work shortly so have a good day
300m > July 18 Chocolate
I went out with the office for a quick lunch yesterday so I did not get my walk in. By the time I got home from my errands it was late and I had no picture. I had formed this thought in my head for this shot and tried my luck. It took me about 10+ shots to get the lighting to the levels I liked without shadows. This is Lindt Petite deserts, my daughter shared her' again so I could photograph. I actually had to open the box for this shot. I used 3 flashes to accomplish this shot with the lightbox. SB 800 on the sync cord as the main from the left side, another small on the right and a small clamped to a stand above. If someone wants to try chocolate, put it in the fridge 1st. I learned this the hard way :)
300m > June 10: In the blink of an eye
I caught this little guy when I was walking at lunch. I took a few shoots, but was intrigued by this one as he had his eye closed when he turned his head to look at me. I thought this was a cool shoot as you rearly see a bird with the eye closed. He was in a crepe myrtle bush along the road I walk at lunch. I got good quality, even with the lens at min fstop and full lens length. I did a tight crop to remove a lot of the tree and bring out the detail in the bird.

300m > April 7: Cool Natural Look! I captured this out the window on the flight in. I used my iPhone to take a shot of the sky and I was surprised to see what I got. I took about 6 shots and 4 were good. I put the others here. http://300m.smugmug.com/gallery/4509273_QAdKc#276034421
I have no idea of the EXIF on the iPhone as it is not listed. Speed had to be fast enough to stop the blades to get this effect and the swirl effect on the other. I was impressed.

Can anyone tell me the code to put the html links up as a hyperlink instead of text?
Thanks Need to get ready for class now.
