300m > April 12: macro view of a bud of some kind. My daughter and I went walking in the woods so she could take some photo's of a dogwood tree and something else she saw. While walking I saw this bud growing off the side of the tree on a small branch. I took the shot with my macro with the mag rate on the 105 ~ 1:1 for this shot. I cropped the image with the view full size as it looks cool. This is a 1:1 view of the image that is smaller than a dime, ~ 1cm. Full size view is here. 300m > June 27: Morning plant waterings I took this shot on the way to my morning meting, before my plane trip home. They had just finished this section of feeding and watering of the plants and the morning light was streaming in through the glass ceiling. I was enthralled with the shot and got into the bed and stood on my tip toes to get this shot. I got a bit wet, but I was determined. My boss came upon me and laughed at my positioning and wet shirt and pants :). Thankfully blue jeans do not show water well. I am home now and will start working on catchup right after my chores that have been patiently waiting for me all week. Have to go out early as it is suppose to be 98 with a heat index of 105 today. 300m > May 19: Aphid I was out in the front yard looking for pictures of the day I was lost for a POD stinking out on ideas. I saw lots of little things that were uneventful and nothing jumped at me. I saw this bud and took a picture with my wide angle but was not that interesting. Thought I would try a close shot with the macro to fill the frame. When I did I saw this little bug and got interested. I followed this bug for ~ 15 min to get a good shot. Found out it is an Aphid that eat roses. There are others on the bud you can just make out in the background. This shot was handheld and done by leaning against the house for support. 300m > April 17: Sunrise over the Moat on Ft Monroe. I saw this shot on the way into work this morning. Sun was due to come up in ~ 20 min. I drove to my office and walked back to the moat and took this shot. Camera was in manual mode and I used a tripod shoot at various settings to get the look and exposure I wanted. I did the frame effect in photoshop, I have been wanting to try this. For those that do not know, Ft Monroe inner area is surrounded by a moat filled with water. Inner is to the right of this shot, walls are 21' thick at the bottom and 16' thick at the top. I was standing on the Main Gate Bridge to take this shot. 300m > March 29: Sunset on the James River. We were sitting at dinner tonight finishing up from our dinner out ~ 7PM when I realized I had taken a total of 2 pictures all day. I knew I was in trouble with a DP shot and was going to have to use a shot from the archives for today. While on the way to get some black fabric for some macro shots, Paul gave me this idea. I spotted this sunset in the works and drove the 5 miles to the public boat ramp on the James River and snapped 5 shots of the sunset. On this shot I focused the camera where I wanted in manual set the meter to matrix and then raised the tripod to max height. Using the electronic trigger I took 2 shots 5 min apart. This was the better shot color wise. I would not have been able to get this shot without the electronic trigger as the camera was at least 3' over my head. 300m > May 01: The luck of the Irish! A shamrock plant in our front flower bed. I caught this right after the sun went behind the house tonight. I was looking for some plants to photograph that I had not posted yet. I spied this one under out weeping cherry tree and setup my tripod. I used a single flash off the R1, baby flash, and bounced the light into a gold reflector to get the warm tone in the picture. The wind was blowing tonight making shots hard. The reflector helped and hindered a bit with the wind. THis shamrock is smaller than my little finger, ~.375" (3/8). I like the warm tone of this shot the light off the reflector added. 300m > March 21: Pick a color! I was having some service done on my car this morning so I wandered around the dealership and took a few pictures. Sun was just coming up, 7:30 AM so the lighting was good. I saw this shot in a back row of cars the was just lit by the rising sun and thought it would make a good picture. 300m > July 19: Crystal Challenge I thought on this shot a lot yesterday. kre8ite mentioned the challenge and I gave this this some thought. How to light a crystal bunny without all the wild reflections that is different. I wanted to use different lighting and I tried candles, tea lights. I was not real happy with the results and I remember a not from Bill Pador and I took some inspiration from this and build custom reflectors out of AL foil to direct my light. These baby's get hot with an open flame :). This worked well as I was able to direct my light where I wanted it to get the results I was looking for. This shot was done in a black light box I built from foam core. it is 15" square and light tight with an opening in the front for the lens to poke through. This shot is straight from the camera no PP at all. I just added my copyright in PS. Interesting note is the smoke/focus line at the bottom of the bunny. This is not dust or dirt as I checked and re-shot. I was not bothered by it so I left it as it. Creative license, I wanted this line :)
300m > July 5: As seen from a canoe My daughter and I rented a canoe yesterday afternoon after we did our archery shooting. The day was hot, muggy, and overcast. It had just finished raining before we went shooting arrows as the field was still wet. The canoe's were great as the breeze was nice and the water felt good. Sky was overcast and cloudy but the rain held off for us. I took my Pro1 again with us for some shots along the water. This flower was along the bank of one of the small inlets To hold the canoe steady we had our paddles in the water in the mud attempting to hold the canoe at least stable while I tried to get shots at various angles without getting stuck on the down trees in front of this flower. This was the better of the 3 shots I took. Lots of debris behind the plant and this shot does not show this. The frame in this picture I am demoing the program Bill Paldor mentioned in his, OnOne's ProFrame. There are 48 frames in the demo, 4000 in the actual. This is just a plain ellipse keyed to the plant and the background is the same color as the new bulb.

I spied this one under out weeping cherry tree and setup my tripod. I used a single flash off the R1, baby flash, and bounced the light into a gold reflector to get the warm tone in the picture. The wind was blowing tonight making shots hard. The reflector helped and hindered a bit with the wind. THis shamrock is smaller than my little finger, ~.375" (3/8). I like the warm tone of this shot the light off the reflector added.
