300m > April 20: Lilly We have rain today for most of the day as we were stuck inside. I bought a small batch of flowers as my wife was due home today and we knew she would like the Iris and lilly. I took the opportunity to photo the lilly before she came home. This one is focus stacked, 2 copies. My 1st attempt at focus stacking. I use the Helicon Focus program (MAC) for this operation. I shot the lily using the NIkon R1 flash system using 2 flashes in 2 groups. Trying to learn to use my flash better EXIF D200 on tripod 105mm VR in manual 1/60 sec f/14 +1 EV ISO 125 Same setting for both shots stacked. Looks like the stacking program kill EXIF data
300m > April 8: I saw the steeple from the highway going to my motel and I doubled back to look. They had a tall granite steeple that looks cool that I was shooting and the main chapel was also nice. This had some really great colors and is striking. This is the First Baptist Church of Huntsville Ala. I cropped the grass away as it was really dead brown and dull looking, worse than the walkway. 300m > June 24: Flower at the Gaylord Hotel I captured this flower in the lobby of the hotel on the way to dinner. I had a 45 min break so I took a group of shot that I will try to upload before I go to my meeting this AM. This hotel is phenomenal. I have not stayed in one so extravagant like this. I really like this little pink flower and the small bud below the bloom Thanks to everyone for the kind comments!!! I will pass these on to my coworker who thanks you. I was not expecting to be this busy! Hopefully tonight I will have some time to myself. I will most likely catchup this weekend Thanks everyone, John I seem to be having net problems this AM so I will try later
300m > June 13: View from atop the moat When I went for today's walk I did not realize it was Friday the 13! I did have a few mishaps that I will explain later. This is one of the views I see when I do the moat walk at lunch. You can see the moat itself in this shot ~ 6' deep now after all these years. Post was originally built in the late 1800's. I was determined to get a few good wide shots today so I mounted my 18-35mm lens and worked with that lens. Just like working with a prime, it makes you think more when composing a shot. This took 2 positions on top of the moat before I was happy with the composition. Buildings, starting on the left is post HQ, the short building to the right is the phone company. Behind that one is the fire department, The big building behind with the flat roof is admin space and the one with the copula is the hospital. The next 4 are duplex housing quarters as is the 6th. The 5th, which is actually the on the end of the road was the Chief Surgeon's quarters. Very odd shaped and sized home with 3 floors and a small basement for utilities. Right adjacent to this home in the moat itself, is where I photographed the yellow crested night heron. The water tower is how I know TomL or even Shelly's prodding on faith of that building could not have held beer as I was there when it was built and inspected the site. They are just welded steel tanks, not stainless like beer. You can just get a glimse of the moat wall on the right side that surrounds the moat. Monroe is the only active fort with a moat in the US. 85% of the installation is outside the moat. As to Friday the 13th. I had my tripod as I wanted to do a HDR shots today as the noon day sun is bad. While walking around the top of the moat, dirt path I found a hidden sink hole and fell with my tripod. That took the impact and I and the camera are ok. But the control shafts on the Gitzo head I use are bent. 300m > June 5: Clematis starting to bloom I was working to get some things done at work today and was late in getting a picture. Due to my work load today (new job) I was unable to walk at lunch and get some pictures. Coming home late I was wondering what to do as I had to wait for the plumber to show. I walked the yard pulling weeds when I saw a single pedal blooming on the clematis and got my camera. The flower is not fluu bloomed yet, but I thought it looked cool. Shot is hand held with a single SB200 flash as with the wind I needed more light than 1/10 sec to capture the flower. I had the flash in my pocket so I made the best use of available light and used the flash from the side at reduced power for fill. 300m > March 15: I am late in adding this photo as the wife and I had an evening to ourselves and we made the best of it with dinner and an outing. Those with children will understand the schedule free time thing. I had even planned on getting some night shots of downtown VA Beach after dinner but the mother nature decided it would rain and put a damper on that part of the evening. I took a walk Saturday AM to stretch my legs and get rid of some stiffness from working on the roof. As spring is trying to bloom here in lower VA I availed myself of early AM lighting and colors and took some flower and tree bloom pictures. This shot was taken with a 18-200 zoom not a macro so I am pleased with the results. Sky was real blue yesterday morning.
300m > May 20: Lighthouse I took this 3 shot HDR at lunch time. I hand held 3 shot at 1 EV apart. I liked the shot and wanted to capture the results of this picture. I do like the way the old lighthouse looks and wanted to reflect this shot the best I could today. The rain had passed long enough for me to walk at lunch so I made the best of my time and took some DP shots. EXIF Pro 1 ISO 50 1/400 f 6.3
300m > march 16: I came up with this idea due to the rain we had most of the morning. These are mosaic glass beads my wife uses when she does mosaic work. I placed them in a green leaf shaped bowl and placed them on the deck in the late afternoon sun. Using the tripod I snapped this shot. I cropped the picture in lightroom slightly to get ride of some of the leaf bowl. 1/50@ f/10 ISO 100 +1EV on tripod 18-200 mm lens
300m > March 25: Sunrise over the inner moat. I caught this as I looked out the office door at work. Ran down to my car and got the camera out Sun was actually behind the building on the left when I took the photo ~ 7:15 this AM. EXIF time is wrong as I have not set the time since the time change on this camera. Orange color is just as it came out of the camera. All I did in LR was to crop and straighten the shot as I leaned over the railing to get this shot. I exposed for the sky as to silhouette the trees and buildings against the morning sky. D100 Tamaron 24-300 @ 78 mm 1/500 f/8.0 ISO 200 (Bottom for a D100)
