300m > April 14: Surreal Gazebo I took this shot at lunch today. I was out waking in the lousy weather today and took this shot. 300m > April 11: Flowing water, cascading down the path of life This is a little water fall that is actually behind the conference center I have been at all week. I was able to take this shot with the use of a tripod and the electronic ND filter that the Pro1 has built in. After my last trip I did some reading on Canon's site of the old manual. This is really only as big as it looks ~ 5' and located under a bridge on the UAH campus at the Belville center. I arrived just after sunrise to catch this shot. I would like to thank everyone for their comment on my pictures and I will do my best to catch up when I get home. The net connection I have here is real poor. This upload take ~ 10 min to take. Motel has a wireless router and I only get 1 bar. I was up all last night working on my presentation that is due at 8 this morning. 300m > July 4th: Answering the raised bar. Bill Paldor has really raised the bar and this is my attempt to catch up. I took over 35 shots today trying to get this in the form I wanted to no effect. This image was shot using the R1 system with 2 SB200 flash units and filter gels. A blue clamped to a light stand and suspended over the glasses firing down at -1.3 EV and a red on another light stand directly under the lens at -0.3EV. On board flash was in commander mode only (off). The result was fine, but I still did not like the glare/harsh red light I got. I played around with B&W and while adjusting the contrast I found this. What I did is add a slight curve to the blue channel and then flattened the image. Open the new layer and applied the red channel to the RGB and this is the result. The image is only the red channel of the B&W. I discarded the others as I liked this. Hope everyone had a happy 4th. Here is the alt to today's photo using a gridient filter and 25% passed Alt DP In case you have never tired the indv channels in B&W the command in PS is "Command key" and the "~, 1, 2, 3" ~ is RGB, 1 is Red, 2 is Green and 3 is blue.
300m > April 4: I was off today as we had 3 appointments scheduled during the day so I tried to make the best of the time I had. I took this shot and several others this morning after it stopped raining. Day was a bit dull and dark so I mounted my macro on the camera and placed the rig on a tripod. This shot is of a pair of blooms that have not opened yet with a few well placed water drops. If you look at the water drops you can see the leaves and walkway behind me. Focus of this shot was on the raindrops and not the Azalea itself. I was intrigued at the reflections in the water drops and this is what I concentrated on. I am late today as we switched from Cox to Verizon fios and I am just getting on line now. Still do not have my local mail working, but my .mac address is working. EXIF: D200 105 mm Macro in manual mode , tripod mounted, electronic trigger ISO 125 1/8 sec f/18 When I get caught up here with verizon I will respond to all and review the sites. They look good on my iPhone, I just cannot add comments from the phone for some reason.
300m > June 8: Robin I went out this afternoon looking for my daily with my 70-200 VR mounted. I found a variety of shots but this robin flew into my crepe myrtle bush/tree. I chased him for ~ 15 min around that 20' tree till he flew over to the neighbors fence. I was able to capture a full shot of him on the fence. After this I went and cut the grass and worked in the yard as the temps had dropped to 90, yuck. Thanks for all the nice comments and the well wishing when I was sick this weekend!! 300m > May 25: Bubbling ooze I was looking for a shot today to use and took about 6 pictures before I found this. This shot has not been rotated and is on something in the yard I am going to see if you folks can guess what. I did take this with the macro for more detail, shot is very visible to the naked eye and is really ~ 25" long. It is in my front yard at home. I had not seen this before so I thought the shot interesting. I took this shot hand held at 1/20 by holding on to something while snapping the shot. Does anyone have a guess ? 300m > May 5: Chamberlin Hotel on Ft Monroe. I took this shot today at lunch while out walking. I though this would lend itself to a good B&W conversion so I gave it a whirl. I was working with Dreamhat (Gerry) tonight on the gradient map and worked a version of my own with this effect. I did my normal process steps, then added a darkening layer with a blend if for the sky, a small contrast curve then added the gradient mask. Thanks Gerry for the help. I did an alternate that is freaky for today. Basically what happens when you over sharpen to the nth level. Freaky alt DOP EXIF, PRo1, 1/1250, ISO 100, f/5.6, -2/3 EV
300m > July 11: Indecision I could not make up my mind as which shot I liked so I decided to use both. There is a story behind one of these shots and a nickname I have gained with the ladies at work. I was shooting the one on the right, have no idea what it is but is is ~ 1" (25mm) in size. I was determined to get this shot so I had to get down in the mulch bed. Then lower. I also had I my ipod on listing to music and did not know these ladies had come up. Now, I am dressed for my daily walk at 12 in tank top and jogging shorts. When I got up they told me I had mulch everywhere on backside. Including up the shorts. They informed my I had eeraned the nickname "Mulch butt". I was covered with the stuff. I was determined to get this shot, I really liked the play of the stamen shadow on the pedals. LOL, I did not realize how bad I was covered in mulch till I got up. The shot on the left is a small bright red one along one of the buildings at work that I added a gradient mask to and reduced the opacity to let through 25% color. To mate the shots into one I went into photoshop and stretched the canvas area to accept the second shot and dragged in in. I drew the black spacer between and looked at frames. I enlarged the canvas another 1.5" so the frame would fit without cropping the shot and applied this film strip from OnOne demo. I thought this fit the picture today.
