John (300m) > June 2: Butterfly's are free tonight, fly away bye bye Elton John Butterfly that I chased on my walk for at least 10 min. He was flitting from dandelion to dandelion feeding on the flowers. I took about 10 shots before I got a good one to use for the DP. I had my D200 today so I was happy to chase him around the moat walk. Nothing special here, natural light and an 18-200 VR lens to capture the shot. EXIF D200 ISO 125 1/250 f/8.0 +1/3 EV 200mm
John (300m) > Bun-Bun We came home from work today to find our 8 yr old bunny near death. She was in her cage on he side, had no interest in people or food. Normally she is hyper and begs for treats at the drop of a hat. She would not move or get up. We called a bunch of vets to find one who would see a rabbit. The vet we normally saw retired and they have no one to see exotic pets. I think I called half the emergency vets without much success. We found one where we take the kittens 30 miles up the road and made the trip. Bun was in a bad way and not responding well at all. The Vet told us it had moved to far to do much to save her. She recommend we euthanize her so she would not suffer. She said it was most likely age and an something else that caught her all of a sudden. We will miss her as she was the 1st rabbit/pet we got as a family. I wanted to do this little tribute to her from me. Bun was a mini Rex and full size.
John (300m) > Crystal Ink Bottle I am sharing a shot I took for another challenge. I came home last night to discover another loss from the lightning, my main backup external drive is in/out causing problems. Spent 1.5 hrs on the line with tech support ot identify the problem, I was having boot issues. Well the short is the drive is not trustworthy and all my 2004-2008 files are on here :( That is why Lightroom kept locking up and my computer would hangup. I lost 2 days worth of pictures, all the ones I did yesterday and the day before. I have the raw files but all the processing is gone.. I did one for today, but I was not happy with the shot and was tired. I wanted a non flower shot so vs the ones I took so here is one I took for the office supplies challenge. This is a crystal ink bottle that I was changing ink in. I write with fountain pens so I use this to keep my ink on my desk. Right behind my digitizer and phone. Have a great day Folks!
John (300m) > Tobacco House This is part of a series of shot I will put up for the week that I took in Yorktown. This is a Tobacco house where the person lived and worked tobacco. Tomorrow I will show the inside of this house. The tones and the color reflected the bleak exterior of the home. It was a dull gray with mold on the side. Matching the lifeless feel the sky had. The B&W had a good feel for the day and the tone. In talking with the local colonial folks it was fitting as this was not a great place to work. Have a great day
John (300m) > July 9: Out of my comfort zone. Well I did it today, fully out of my comfort zone and in front of the camera. It was raining today and between that and the tasker I was working I did not get my lunchtime walk in today. I have had this SP shot in the back of my head for the last month so I figured that if John could get in front of the camera then I could. I did the setup in my "office" here at home with two SB800's. One is mounted on a stand at 90 degrees to the camera with the diffusion dome on and set for 14mm lens The second was on the camera with the diffusion dome and set for 17mm lens. I was using my 17-35mm lens at 24mm for the shot. Flashes were controlled by the master on the camera set at full and the off camera a -.3EV. Triggering was done with the Nikon electronic trigger set for multi exposure. This forces the camera to focus at every shot so I could trash the 1st shot and use the rest :) I was actually working on a shot in Lightroom in the picture. The sunrise is here. Sunrise This was my alt choice in case I lost my nerve to post my mug shot.
John (300m) > Hi Key Rose Not everyone stands out in the yard in the rain holding a camera in one hand and an umbrella in the other. I was bored, need a shot, enough said :) To verify my wife, yes I am nuts. Just to prove it I have more shots of leaves etc I captured in the rain Have a great day folks Thanks for all the guesses yesterday and to Maryanne (fotomom) for the correct guess on the horse stable.
John (300m) > It was Yummy! I captured mittens here eating. I was laying on the floor with the 70-200 on the camera. This was capture hand held. I love the D700 as this was at ISO 2200 and if I had done this with my D200 this would have been very grainy. Straight from the camera @ f/2.8 with a small crop at the bottom to remove some junk at floor level with me. Richard you are quick as I have not even finished typing :)
John (300m) > Dec 31: Final sunset of 08 I went down to the river to capture the sunset and to play with some Cokin filters I got. This is the result of those shots. I used a combination of 2 filters to capture this effect and to mirror the effect on the water. I darkened the beach in CS as the ugly brown broken ground detracted from the shot.
John (300m) > Nov 18: Water Droplets I found this leaf in the yard and I really liked the play of light on the leaf. The interplay with the features looked good and I was impressed with the shot. I had been walking around with my 70-200 on and the min distance with that lens is 5' so I was about 6' away from the leaf and still captured this shot. I did the conversion to B&W in PS and adjusted the setting till I found a point for the shot I liked. Enjoy and have a great day
